Goals: Students will learn to distinguish between more and less successful compositions.
Objectives: Students will experiment with different compositions for their symbolic still lifes.
Intended Audience: 6th Grade

1. Students will make works of art that explore different kinds of subject matter, topics, themes.
– Students will draw four different compositions.
2. Students will know and use a variety of visual arts materials, techniques, and processes.
– Students will arrange object in varying compositions.
3. Students will respond critically to a variety of works in the arts, connecting the individual work to other works and to other aspects of human endeavor and thought.
– Students will view still life paintings by Audrey Flack.
4. Students will develop an understanding of the personal and cultural forces that shape artistic communication and how the arts in turn shape the diverse cultures of past and present society.
– Students will reflect on the still life paintings for their own work.

Pre-Requisite Knowledge: Students should be familiar with rhythm, balance, positive and negative space.
Procedure:
1) Teacher will introduce Audrey Flack and discuss composition on Smartboard.
2) Students will take objects from home and create four still life compositions and draw them. Remind students that these drawings do not need to be very detailed.
3) Students will select their most successful composition for their still life painting.
